KHALSA ACADEMIES TRUST FIRST ANNUAL CONFERENCE WITH FOUR SIKH SCHOOLS A SOLID SUCCESS

Khalsa Academies Trust, a multi-academy trust that manages three schools across the UK and supports a fourth celebrated its achievements at its inaugural conference held at Wyboston Lakes in Bedfordshire. Over 130 staff and governors attended the event with representation from all four schools.

“The conference was arranged to bring our school staff, governors and trustees together to meet each other, many for the first time, network, attend CPD workshops and work with each other on team challenges. The feedback from staff and governors was very positive”, Inder Singh Uppal, Chairman of Khalsa Academies Trust

“Our guest speaker was Toby Young, Director of the New Schools Network who inspired staff on the challenges and vision of setting up his first free school and there have been many parallels with his challenges and those that we have faced”, said Nick Singh Kandola, CEO, Khalsa Academies Trust.

“It was great to meet such a fantastic group of people and congratulations to Khalsa Secondary Academy for its recent GCSE results where it ranked 26th nationally on Progress 8”, said, Toby Young, Director, New Schools Network.

The teaching staff were attending a CPD session with a new teacher coaching system called IRIS Connect which provides a solution for development of teaching and learning for teaching staff to tackle the geographical distance between the KAT schools.  “The IRIS Connect system allows our teachers to record their lessons and share with other teachers and leaders across our four schools and get peer feedback instantly”, said Denise Shepherd, Deputy CEO and Director of Education, Khalsa Academies Trust.

Annual “Over and Above Achievement” awards were presented to one staff member from each school and one governor across each of the schools. The winners were: Ms Mahrukh Mistry from Khalsa Secondary Academy; Ms Surjit Kaur Bhogal from Khalsa Academy Wolverhampton; Mr Jasbir Singh from Atam Academy and the governor award to Mr Mankamal Singh from Atam Academy.

Khalsa Academies Trust, based in Stoke Poges runs the Khalsa Secondary Academy in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire; the Khalsa Academy in Wolverhampton and the Atam Academy in Redbridge. It also supports the Khalsa Science Academy in Leeds.
